The Quad State’s New-Business Champions Contest!

This is about business development. New business start-ups specifically.

We are having a friendly competition between the Quad State’s core counties and municipalities, weighted by population, to spur starting-a-business activity in our region!

What county in the Quad State is the best, most fertile ground for new business creation and incubation? (Maybe we could also have a contest for the best county for long-term business growth, yes?)

How Long is the New-Business Champions Contest?

We are going to announce this year’s five winners around December 15, 2013 for the five ‘core’ counties in the Quad State.

Who Can Participate?

Any one in the Quad State can participate. Any other counties in the Quad State region may also participate, but this time we are only looking at the core counties of Franklin County, PA, Washington County, MD, Jefferson and Berkeley County, WV and Frederick County, VA.

We look to have every Chamber of Commerce, SBDC and SCORE office in our core Quad State counties participate and encourage new business development as never before. We would also like to see service clubs get involved—either on their own or in concert with their county business groups.

How Will the Winners Be Determined?

New business development will be determined on the quantity of new businesses the county produces during the bulk of 2013. Of course QSBJ readers will be able to weight the quantity by county population.

Smallest to Largest—Shoestring Budgets to Large Capitalization

New businesses will be counted not only through courthouse registrations but also via e-mail participation by the smallest of businesses who e-mail QSBJ at the address below to register in their county.

The QSBJ will make speakers available to the various organizations in the Quad state to talk up new business start ups. Only businesses who have launched from Jan 1, 2013 are eligible to register: Contact:

Individual New Business Start Up Winners Will Receive…

Stay tuned throughout the year as we announce new prizes to be added from Quad State businesses! QSBJ readers will be able to VOTE ON YOUR CHOICE of new business categories such as:

Most Creative Idea;

Best Internet Business Start Up;

Best Brick & Mortar Start Up;

Best One-person Business;

Best Strategy Deployed;

Best Marketing Campaign;

And so on. We will attempt to get you up close and personal to as many of these business start ups as we can before voting starts on December 1, 2013. If you would like to offer a prize, register your start up business, request a speaker, or just ask a question, let us know at

It’s going to be a fun contest—and a good excuse for business growth in your county. We are happy to have you join in!
